Living in Plainville, Massachusetts

Plainville is a compact Norfolk County town of about 11.6 square miles, named in 1856 for the flat "plains" at its center and incorporated as its own town in 1905 after splitting from Wrentham. Its jewelry-era history ties it to the Attleboro manufacturing district — firms like Whiting & Davis once operated here — and the Angle Tree Stone of 1790 still marks a colonial boundary line at the North Attleborough edge. Water features include Turnpike Lake, Shepards Lake, and Lake Mirimichi, and the Ten Mile River has its headwaters in town. Plainville is best known today for Plainridge Park, the harness-racing track and gaming facility off Route 1, and for Hawkins Woods, a conservation area with hiking trails and a disc golf course; the town also claims "An Unlikely Story," the bookstore owned by author Jeff Kinney. Interstate 495 and U.S. Route 1 cross the town, with the nearest commuter rail at Mansfield and Forge Park, putting Providence about 20 miles south and Boston about 35 miles northeast. I've helped buyers and sellers throughout Plainville, and I'm always glad to talk it through in English or Spanish.

Plainville Neighborhoods

Plainville is small enough that daily life centers on its Main Street corridor and town center, with residential streets fanning out from there. The Turnpike Lake area draws homes toward the water on the town's eastern side, while newer single-family subdivisions have filled in much of the rest since the town's mid-century growth. More than 3,500 acres of forested open space frame the edges, keeping wooded parcels within easy reach of the center.

Property Taxes in Plainville

Property tax rates in Plainville are set each year by the town and applied per $1,000 of assessed value. Massachusetts communities can treat residential and commercial property differently, and exemptions may apply, so the most reliable way to confirm the current rate and a specific property's tax figure is to check with the Plainville Assessor's office or the listing's tax record.
