Living in Bellingham, Massachusetts

Bellingham sits in the southwestern corner of Norfolk County, incorporated in 1719 and named for an early Massachusetts Bay governor. Its position is unusual — it straddles the Charles River and Blackstone River watersheds and sits roughly 30 miles from Boston, 23 from Worcester, and 20 north of Providence, giving it a true crossroads feel. The town's mill heritage runs deep, from the North Bellingham cotton mill of about 1810 to the Caryville woolen and boot mill, and several of its ponds were dug to power that early industry. Silver Lake, once a trolley-era resort with a carousel and dance hall, is now a preserved beach and pond, and the Southern New England Trunkline Trail — a 22-mile rail trail — runs west through town toward the Blackstone Valley, connecting to the Franklin-Bellingham Rail Trail. Interstate 495 crosses the north end at Route 126, Route 140 runs east-west, and the nearest commuter rail is Forge Park/495 in neighboring Franklin. I work with buyers and sellers across Bellingham, and I'm here to help in English or Spanish whenever you're ready.

Bellingham Neighborhoods

Bellingham gathers into a handful of sections. Bellingham Center anchors the town, while North Bellingham, South Bellingham along Pulaski Boulevard, and Caryville trace back to the town's mill-village days along the Charles. Development since World War II has filled much of the town with single-family neighborhoods, layered over that older mill housing, and the Silver Lake area draws homes toward the water. With Interstate 495 at the north end, commuters reach the highway quickly from most of town.

Property Taxes in Bellingham

Property tax rates in Bellingham are set each year by the local assessors and applied per $1,000 of assessed value. Massachusetts communities can treat residential and commercial property differently, and exemptions may apply, so the most reliable way to confirm the current rate for a specific property is to check with the Bellingham assessor or the tax record on the listing.
